The cut-and-sew knits coming down runways in New York and London have a decidedly active spin. There are contrast stripes used in fresh ways at hip and sleeve, creating a tromp l’oeil sweater for a color-blocked dress. Other knit dresses are buttoned down the front (at center or asymmetrically) or bordered with a contrast band. Stripes are engineered into the knitted garment, appliquéd, or created with wide panels that are tacked together at strategic points. Checkerboard effects offer an alternative to stripes, for crop tops and fashion sweats.
