THE SOFT HOURGLASS
A new dress silhouette emerged on Spring runways; it skims over the bodice and widens gently below the hips. An evolution of the fit-and-flare of old, these are longer and more graceful than previous iterations. The flared bottom is achieved with gathers, gores, pleats or flat constructions, and the shape works for engineered knits as well. Depending upon details and fabric, the silhouette lends itself to all markets, and can go romantic, boho or modernist. Strategically placed stripes emphasize the important hourglass torso, and a wide belt adds more definition.
